Prolotherapy, also know as nonsurgical ligament reconstruction, is a medical treatment for chronic pain. It causes the proliferation, or growth, of new connective tissues in weak areas. It is know to treat joint pain and also increase joint ligament strength. 

How does it work?

A proliferant (collagen producing solution) in injected in to tendons or ligaments and causes a localized inflammation, which then turns on the healing process. This stimulates the growth of new collagen to strength the weak ligaments and tendons. The tendons and ligaments grow stronger to relieve pain and become more capable of supporting normal joint stability. Treaments are moderately painful, so light sedation is typically used. Animals may become sore afterwards, but it is uncommon.
