Nutraceuticals can be categorized as Dietary Supplements, functional Foods or Medicinal Foods. It can be defined as food, or part of food, that provides medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease. Nutraceuticals in dogs are generally there to help overall health. Essential fatty acids are one of the most common nutraceuticals used in dog medication. They help with skin conditions of pets. Also, glycosaminoglycans are used to help with joint pain. They are naturally occuring hormones that produce new joint fluid and tissue.
